The CHORNOBYL RAY drink, prepared by a distillation technology from the apples, harvested in the Chornobyl zone, has been experimentally proved to be and formally certified as absolutely radiation-safe. Though for many it may look surprising, the fact has a firm scientific explanation, based on:
(I) the actual properties of radioactive contamination and its positive evolution with time,
(II) the peculiarities of apple production and their radiobiology, and
(III) the purification properties of the fermentation and distillation processes.
After the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant in 1986, at first it seemed that the radiation-affected land would always remain contaminated. However, the heroic work of liquidators and the potent forces of nature made possible that over more than three and a half decades, radiation in the area has decreased thousands of times, and in some parts of the Chornobyl zone radiation-clean and -safe apples can be grown today.
The purification of the environment from radiation, which is a basic precondition for harvesting harmless apples, has occurred due to the four main reasons:
1) The work of Chornobyl liquidators. During the first four years, about half a million people eliminated radioactive contamination in the Chornobyl zone: they removed the contaminated topsoil along with hazardous objects to special storage places, etc. Their heroic work first stopped the spread of the invisible enemy – radiation, – and later forced it to retreat. It is these people whom are we to be thankful for the fact that even in the initially most polluted places the Chornobyl radiation decreased hundreds of thousands of times.
2) The natural decay of radioactive elements. Those radioactive elements, which had been the most hazardous in the first year of the accident, have already decayed and vanished. Those that remain are significantly less active, located mostly near the Chornobyl NPP, and in relatively small amounts.
3) The bonding of radioactive elements in the upper layer of the soil. Over decades the radioactive elements traveled deeper and deeper into the ground with water from rains and melted snow. They were bound by soil structures at a depth from 15 cm at the unplowed ground to 30 cm, at the plow immersion depth, at the cultivated soil.
4) The uneven contamination of territories. The degree of radiation contamination is dramatically different in the different parts of the Chornobyl zone. In the directions of the two main emissions, to the west and north, the pollution stretches quite far, for tens of kilometers – but just a few kilometers away from their respective axes, the environment can be hundreds or even thousands of times cleaner.
Why are the apples, which are used to prepare the CHORNOBYL RAY drink, radiation-free?
1) The apples are harvested in the least affected part of the Chornobyl zone. The Chornobyl zone is divided into the two principal parts: the less polluted zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement and the more polluted zone of exclusion. Apples for CHORNOBYL RAY are gathered in the former zone, in its inhabited Narodytskyi district.
2) Our apples are purchased from private farms, located on radiologically clean and certified lands, where the gradual clearing of land from radionuclides by natural reasons and special agricultural means have made safe horticulture possible.
3) Apple trees grow in gardens where the soil is not plowed and their roots penetrate the ground much deeper than the layers that could be contaminated (that is, deeper than 15-30 cm).
4) According to long-term research by specialists in agro radioecology, even if a tree grows on contaminated soil, only a miniscule share of the soil contamination makes it into the apple fruit. Most of the radionuclides are fixed in the roots and leaves of the apple tree. It is an example of a rather general rule: the organs of live organisms, responsible for reproduction are the most protected.
5) Finally, when the apple fruits for the production of the drink are purchased, they undergo a thorough entry laboratory checkup.
The subsequent processes of producing spirit from the apples make further – substantial and final – contribution to the purity of the CHORNOBYL RAY drink.
1) At first it is washing the apples, which eliminates possible surface contamination.
2) Then, during the fermentation, the radioactive elements, if even would be present, would concentrate in its solid phase, which precipitate, is separated, and eliminated before the next stage.
3) Finally, distillation is a powerful purification process, after which only apple alcohol, water and a small amount of pleasant-smelling organic compounds remain in the drink.
The above makes obvious why the most sensitive devices showed the outstanding radiation purity of the CHORNOBYL RAY apple spirit, the fact being confirmed by high-precision laboratory tests and a formal certificate by the National Research Center for Radiation Medicine of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
